This is for a powerpoint, please help. Will give medal. This is on the Pueblo Tribe. The topic is change. How has the tribe changed during the history of the United States? Did the tribe make a treaty with the United States? Did the tribe adopt European culture?
This is an interesting topic. Pueblo means village in Spanish. The name originally referred to anybody who's village was on top of a mesa (we call them pueblos.) There are 19 confederated Pueblo tribes. Hopi are also Puebloan but they have there own government system. The languages they speak come from 4 different family groups. Most of the New Mexico pueblos speak one of a dozen Keres language dialects. Eastern NM and Texas Pueblos speak dialects of Kiowa. The Hopi language is a descendant of Aztec. And Zuni is not related to any other language known. (There is a great New York style pizza place on the Zuni Res though.) The 4 languages were not similar and they only communicate now because they all speak English too. I won't list all the Pueblo groups here. You can probably Google that. These people are unique in that they were never removed from their home lands. The government sorta drew lines around them and told them to stay there. It's very hard to defeat people who live on top of mesas or on cliffs. The Hopi has had much more conflict with the Navajo than with the rest of America. The major change I saw last time I went through is gambling. There was none of that when I lived in the area. Now, big neon signs and casinos have replaced herds of sheep in many places. The groups also have to deal with equal distribution of the wealth and who gets to build a casino and who doesn't, like many native groups today. Money can be a curse to civilizations. And I don't see how you can drive a Cadillac up a mesa anyway. On a side note. Death by Powerpoint is one of the most painful things invented by modern man. Use lots of pictures if you can. There are lots of great images available. Google Acoma, Laguna, Cochiti and what not.
what about the other two questions @wwhitlock
