Why were President Wilson’s Fourteen Points not incorporated in the Treaty of Versailles? The Allied delegates wanted Germany to pay reparations for the war. The Allied delegates wanted a provision to restore democracy in Russia. The Allied delegates felt the Fourteen Points were too easy on Germany. The Allied delegates felt the Fourteen Points would restrict their expansion goals.

Wilson really wanted to rebuild Europe and foreign relations. He gave points that the other delegates believed were too idealistic. He also focused more on diplomacy instead of blaming countries. He did not include making Germany pay for the war. While he focused on all of Europe, the other delegates, especially France, were really angry with Germany. So instead of focusing on diplomacy, the treaty really emphasized the punishment of Germany. Cecil has the right idea. Most of the European leaders didn't get the big lesson to be learned from WWI-the age of military empire and colonialism was over. So they kept trying to live in the past for the next 50 or so years. They fought WWII for some of the same reasons, but still didn't dump the ideas of colonies until late in the century.

OpenStudy (cecil_the_weasel):

It's unfortunate really. WWI was fought over some things that in retrospect look almost silly. My teacher actually likes to refer to WWI as a big family argument because many of the leaders who were involved were pretty closely related. It was pretty much the equivalent of cousins fighting over cookies in a jar when none of the cookie were actually theirs to begin with. Sadly their fight over land led to chaos all over the world and opened up the door for new horrible leaders to take their place.

War is never a logical thing. Humans seem addicted to it though.
