Which led to the dust storms of the 1930s? the consolidation of small farms the removal of grass the creation of cattle ranches the use of dry farming

OpenStudy (kingdomkey):

Really dumb question tbh, I should know this >.> I want to say the removal of grass but I'm not sure why they'd remove it to begin with, since that's what they had used to farm with. With no grass after the dust storms, they were forced to move.

OpenStudy (kat_s123):

Well it was over farming,, but I don't see how any of these options are really viable. Dry farming would have prevented the dust storms. Cattle ranches have nothing to do with that, and the consolidation of small farms again has nothing to do with that. I guess if they worded the removal of grass differently it would make more sense, but essentially the dust bowl was formed due to overplowing, so I guess you could say it's b.

Kind of skimmed through both responses to the last question so I'm not entirely sure if this question was answered in this responses or not @kat_s123

http://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/green-science/dust-bowl-cause.htm When pioneers headed west in the late 19th century, many couldn't resist the lure of the tall grassy land in the semiarid midwestern and southern plains of the United States. They settled there to farm. They were prosperous in the decades that followed, but when the 1930s rolled in, so did strong winds, drought and clouds of dust that plagued nearly 75 percent of the United States between 1931 and 1939 [source: PBS]. The era became known as the legendary Dust Bowl. The Dust Bowl brought ecological, economical and human misery to America during a time when it was already suffering under the Great Depression. While the economic decline caused by the Great Depression played a role, it was hardly the only guilty party. What circumstances conspired to cause the Dust Bowl? Economic depression coupled with extended drought, unusually high temperatures, poor agricultural practices and the resulting wind erosion all contributed to making the Dust Bowl.
