Basically you have your circle equation, 16 = y^2 + x^2, and your linear equation, y = -3x. You get your linear equation by finding your first differences based on the table of values.

OpenStudy (erak):

If you want to know when they intersect, let's solve the circle equation for y. 16 = y^2 + x^2 y^2 = 16 - x^2 y = sqrt(16 - x^2) Now set that equal to your linear. -3x = sqrt(16 - x^2) (-3x)^2 = (sqrt(16 - x^2))^2 9x^2 = 16 - x^2 10x^2 = 16 x^2 = 1.6 x = sqrt(1.6) That gives you a positive and negative value where they intersect.

Read through it and ask if you need an explanation on anything.

OpenStudy (tabpernick):

so c?

OpenStudy (erak):

yeah, do you get what I did?

OpenStudy (tabpernick):

Yea the way you explained helped a lot .. can you help me on one more please?:)

OpenStudy (erak):

yeah post it and I'll take a look at it
