OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

Demonstrate using your own unique example how to divide a segment by a given ratio. Be sure to provide coordinates and a ratio that does not have a numerator or denominator of 1.

OpenStudy (perfect14):

numerator or denominator of 1.

OpenStudy (phi):

First, you need to pick a ratio. (And obviously use small numbers to keep things as simple as possible.) Have you picked a ratio ?

OpenStudy (simplymarie_x):

I'll do 2:2 for the ratio. @phi

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

well a really simple method is to form a right triangle from the end points of the segment. then apply the ratio to the horizontal and vertical... then move up till you hit the line.. |dw:1464127113321:dw|

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so if you had |dw:1464127253851:dw| and want to divide it in the ratio of 1:2 just could them off on the horizontal and vertical... and then find the point on the line. of course someone will give you the formula for dividing a segment in a ratio... but diagrams are so much easier to understand hope it helps
