oh thanks
OpenStudy (coexist2):
how do i get rid of the y in#9.?
sam (.sam.):
You don't have to, and you'll need to find the solution for y
sam (.sam.):
\[\frac{3y-8}{12}=\frac{y}{5}\]
By cross multiplication you get
\[5(3y-8)=12y\]
sam (.sam.):
15y-40=12y
3y-40=0
3y=40
y=40/3

Probably
\[\frac{16}{20}=\frac{x}{9}\]
sam (.sam.):
16 is in x, and x is BC's length and 20 is proportionate to 9, so that equation should satisfy it
OpenStudy (coexist2):
5?
sam (.sam.):
You'll get 7.2
OpenStudy (coexist2):
oh okay thanks.

You can't do that|dw:1464770951148:dw|
OpenStudy (coexist2):
?
sam (.sam.):
If you want it simple, 48 multiplied by what to get 57?
sam (.sam.):
And if you divide 57 by 48 you'll get 1.1875
sam (.sam.):
Using this number, 1.1875, and the number 40, multiplying together, you will get x, 47.5
