Currency Exchange problem?
Zebediah is an American traveling with a tour group in Eastern Europe. During a stop in Romania, he purchases a souvenir that is priced at 177 Romanian leu using his credit card. If the exchange rate that day is USD to RON = 2.89, which is the best estimate of the charge Zebediah will later find on his credit card statement?
@Hero
177 / 2.89
Hypothetically yes, it should be 61, but I think it's deeper because nothing is that easy. There is a possibility I'm totally overlooking the obvious though.
*Overthinking
I'm not sure when credit card company apply the exchange rate . Thay can of corse fluctuate so perhaps $50 is the answer, because its the nearest value to $61
- it does ask for the 'best estimate'.
You called the currency Romanian leu. Then you use RON. Are we to assume that RON = Romanian leu?
If we assume that RON = Romanian leu, we are given this: US$ to RON = 2.89 \(\dfrac{US$}{RON} = 2.89\) \(\dfrac{US$}{RON} = \dfrac{2.89}{1} \) \(US$ = 2.89 \times RON\) \(US$ = 2.89 \times 177 = 511.53\) That means it's $511, so the closest answer is $450
@mathstudent55 I think it's 1 USD = 2.89 RON
yea i think that's most likely
