OpenStudy (marcelie):

help please .. how did they get y = F(4)= ...

OpenStudy (marcelie):

OpenStudy (benlindquist):

can you take the pic with everything in it

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Exactly, we don't know if we're given the definition of f(x), or what the objective of the question is. The best is to post an image of the question, \(then\) the solution to be explained.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

`how did they get y = F(4)= ...` @marcelie they replaced every copy of x with 4, then they evaluated/simplified the right hand side \[\Large f(x) = x^3 - 6x^2 + 9x\] \[\Large f\left({\color{red}{x}}\right) = \left({\color{red}{x}}\right)^3 - 6\left({\color{red}{x}}\right)^2 + 9\left({\color{red}{x}}\right)\] \[\Large f\left({\color{red}{4}}\right) = \left({\color{red}{4}}\right)^3 - 6\left({\color{red}{4}}\right)^2 + 9\left({\color{red}{4}}\right)\] \[\Large f(4) = 64 - 6(16) + 9(4)\] \[\Large f(4) = 64 - 96 + 36\] \[\Large f(4) = -32+36\] \[\Large f(4) = 4\]

OpenStudy (marcelie):

sorry i froze. Nevermind i got it lol didnt read directions >.< carefully aha thank yous <3 it said f'(3 ) then f(4)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you're welcome
