OpenStudy (clamin):

Please correct my grammar: 'Its been 3 days straight that I dreamedt that I was in the Las vegas'

OpenStudy (clamin):

*dreamed

OpenStudy (batmano3):

Do you know what is wrong? or have an idea on what the sentence should look like?

OpenStudy (clamin):

Idk but for me the 'that i dreamed that I was in Las Vegas' sounds wrong

OpenStudy (batmano3):

It does well lets begin with the beginning part, remember some words can be two and may need an apostrophe example : It is --> It[']s

OpenStudy (clamin):

im making a story..and the girl dreamed that she's in vegas and that dream is repeated for 3 days straight

OpenStudy (batmano3):

Okay, so lol you just want someone to edit your sentence?

OpenStudy (clamin):

well kind of..its just it sounds wrong and i dont want wrong grammar

OpenStudy (batmano3):

Lol well first I think the sentence shoudl look like this "It has been three days straight, since I last dreamed that I was in Las Vegas." Does that sound better?

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

have, have been

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

have - followed by past have been - present

OpenStudy (nincompoop):

'It has been 3 days straight that I have dreamt I was in the Las vegas'

OpenStudy (aveline):

Don't forget to remove "the" before Las Vegas ;)

OpenStudy (clamin):

I want to explain it more

OpenStudy (clamin):

the girl dreamed last night on her sleep and when she woke up, she told her friend that she's been dreaming that she's in Vegas for 3 days straight now

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

the tense that nincompoop is using is called "present perfect" it indicates an action that started in the past and continues into the present

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

so, in your case, the dreaming started 3 days ago and continues into the present

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

so we use "have" + the past tense of dream

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

now, here's the tricky part

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

"dream" has 2 past tenses: dreamed and dreamt

OpenStudy (clamin):

yes you're right so far

OpenStudy (clamin):

so i can use either dreamed and dreamt?

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

technically, both are correct (Dreamt is more common in Britain than in England)

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

*than in America

OpenStudy (clamin):

ok

Vocaloid (vocaloid):

however, we usually use "dreamt" for a literal dream (the sleeping kind) and "dreamed" for a metaphorical dream (like, hoping or wanting)

OpenStudy (clamin):

so what would my sentence look lke or sounds like?

OpenStudy (clamin):

'It has been 3 days straight that I have dreamt I was in the Las vegas' is it right?

OpenStudy (yoongibear):

You're close. ^^

OpenStudy (yoongibear):

wait

OpenStudy (yoongibear):

lemme check myself x'D

OpenStudy (aveline):

Remember to remove the "the" before Las Vegas. Also, capitalize "Vegas"

OpenStudy (yoongibear):

well, then c'x thanks for jumping in @Vocaloid @Aveline

OpenStudy (true_alpha_wolf):

dreamt*
