Peter is writing an analytical essay on the novel The Death of Ivan Ilych by Leo Tolstoy. At what stage of the writing process should he develop his thesis statement? during the revising stage during the prewriting stage during the drafting stage during the editing stage

Atsie (atsie):

@shianne12 Hey there! Welcome to OpenStudy! Do you have a particular guess on this? :)

OpenStudy (shianne12):

i think it is the prewriting stage but i'm not sure.

Atsie (atsie):

You are definitely close! If we eliminated options, one option that needs to go is D. No one writes a thesis during the editing stage. Why? Because thats disorganized and doesn't make sense. Naturally, a thesis is known as a theory written before you write your official document or essay. A thesis is a statement that someone wants to talk about, its a point that they want to prove. A thesis comes practically before anything when writing. So if we had to eliminate another option, I'd personally go for A. A thesis CAN be revised at certainly any time, but we don't particularly go step by step in ABC pattern to say that the thesis HAS to be done while we are revising our essay. So the only options left are B and C.

OpenStudy (shianne12):

so do you say c would be a better choice for me?

Atsie (atsie):

Well, in all reality BOTH could work depending on the state of circumstance in which you are writing in or about. But mainly, I'd actually go for your guess. B. :) I just wanted to go over all the options with you to make sure you understood. ^.^

OpenStudy (shianne12):

thank you. can you help me with a few more questions?

Atsie (atsie):

I can try I guess. :)

OpenStudy (shianne12):

What is the purpose of a literary analysis essay? to summarize a literary work to review a literary work to argue a personal interpretation of a literary work to give a detailed description of a literary work

Atsie (atsie):

Naturally, literary analysis is a form of review or criticism to a particular written material. You usually wouldn't be required to argue against something in a literary analysis essay, and neither would you be required to summarize something this way either unless it was by chance a strange circumstance in which your teacher required you specifically to do something of the sort. So I think you have a firm idea of what your answer would be. :)

Atsie (atsie):

Yes :)

OpenStudy (shianne12):

Which sentences are good thesis statements for a literary analysis essay on “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell? The plot of “The Most Dangerous Game” revolves around two vain hunters and the competition between them. Rainsford and Zaroff have different views on the practice of game hunting. Zaroff’s passion for hunting is not restricted to the animals; he equally enjoys savagely hunting down humans. Richard Connell employs the element of irony to demonstrate the theme of terror when Rainsford, being a skillful hunter himself, is hunted by the equally skilled hunter Zaroff. Richard Connell uses symbols such as blood and the color red to demonstrate the theme of violence and terror in “The Most Dangerous Game.

Atsie (atsie):

This one, I really am unsure of as I have not read The Most Dangerous Game.

OpenStudy (shianne12):

okay thanks though

Atsie (atsie):

Your welcome! :)
