@jim_thompson5910 could you help me:)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Focus on the left side only for now Subtract the two matrices by subtracting the corresponding terms eg: upper right hand corner has 'b' and '3' so we'd have b-3 in the resulting upper right hand corner \[\Large \begin{bmatrix}a & b\\c & d\end{bmatrix}-\begin{bmatrix}9 & 3\\-8 & 6\end{bmatrix}=\begin{bmatrix}-4 & 3\\6 & 0\end{bmatrix}\] \[\Large \begin{bmatrix}a-9 & b-3\\c-(-8) & d-6\end{bmatrix}=\begin{bmatrix}-4 & 3\\6 & 0\end{bmatrix}\] Does this make sense so far?

OpenStudy (lindseyhope123):

yes

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

notice how 'a-9' is in the upper left hand corner on the left side of the equation also, notice how -4 is in the same spot but on the right side now this must mean they are equal a-9 = -4 a = ???
