OpenStudy (majorwhipage1):

The equation of line xy is (y-3) = -2/3(x-4) what is the slope of a line perpendicular to xy -2 3 -2/3 3/2

OpenStudy (queenie):

can u tell me by looking at the equation the way it is, what the slope is ?

OpenStudy (majorwhipage1):

Is it -3?

OpenStudy (queenie):

no...the slope will be the number right before the x. Can u tell me the slope now ?

OpenStudy (majorwhipage1):

3

OpenStudy (majorwhipage1):

-2/3

OpenStudy (queenie):

the slope is -2/3 understand so far ?

OpenStudy (majorwhipage1):

Yep

OpenStudy (queenie):

a perpendicular line will have a negative reciprocal slope. All that means is " flip " the slope and change the sign. examples : slope is 4/5...perpendicular slope is -5/4 slope is -2/1...perpendicular slope is 1/2 so what is the perpendicular slope of -2/3

OpenStudy (majorwhipage1):

3/2?

OpenStudy (queenie):

correct

OpenStudy (majorwhipage1):

Thank you again

OpenStudy (queenie):

sure thing :)
