WILL FAN AND MEDAL. quick question Choose the correct simplification of (3x^3 + 2x^2 − 5x) − (8x^3 − 2x^2). a. 4th degree trinomial b. 12th degree trinomial c. 3rd degree trinomial d. 6th degree trinomial (Want and explanation for how to figure out the degree with the exponents in the equation as well.)

OpenStudy (queenie):

3x^3 + 2x^2 - 5x - (8x^3 - 2x^2)....first we distribute the - thru the parenthesis 3x^3 + 2x^2 - 5x - 8x^3 + 2x^2...now we combine like terms -5x^3 + 4x^2 - 5x to find the degree, just look for the highest exponent

OpenStudy (queenie):

so...whats the highest exponent ?

OpenStudy (magentama202):

Sorry I was distracted for a moment but 8x^3 would be the highest exponent correct??

OpenStudy (magentama202):

thanks @queenie

OpenStudy (queenie):

yes...and since the highest exponent is 3, then that is the degree...so 3rd degree trinomial
