1. A garden is going to be built in the city park. The garden region is shown below. (a) A short fence will be built around the perimeter of the garden region. Find the number of meters of fencing required. Use 3.14 to approximate pi, and state your answer to the nearest tenth. Show all your work. (b) Find the total area of the garden region. Use 3.14 to approximate pi, and state your answer to the nearest tenth. Show all your work.

A first... then B
well for the rectangle it's pretty simple it's just 2l*2w
ok so 2 x 5=10 and 2 x 7.2=15
2(length of garden)+2(width of rectangle) = Perimeter ; then for the circle you need the circumference. \[C = \frac{ 2\pi*d }{ 2 } = \pi*diameter \] but you need to divide by 2 because that's half of the circle. and the diameter is 5.
2(10)+2(15) = 35
Then what?
What is the diameter? is it 5?
\[2(7.5)+2(5) = 15+10 = 25~m\] \[C = \pi*Diameter => \frac{ \pi*diameter }{ 2 } => \frac{ \pi*(5) }{ 2 } = 2.5\pi~m\]
oh, sorry 25 lol
the diameter is 5 yes. but since there's only half of a circle we don't need the whole circumference. so we divide the circumference by 2
\[Total~peremeter => (15+2.5\pi)m = 17.5\pi~m\]
now to find the area of the rectangle what would you do? just multiply length times width.
ah, ok
so then what would it be? 2 x 5=10 then 2x7.5=15
