Having a brain fart... easy problem

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

I need to solve for y \[x = \frac{ y + 5 }{ y + 10 }\]

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

do I want to multiply by (y + 10)?

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

\[x(y + 10) = y + 5\]

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

subtract the y and divide by x?

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

I do not think I would want to do that.

OpenStudy (daniel.ohearn1):

\[\frac{ y+5 }{ y+10}=x \rightarrow xy+10x = y+5 \rightarrow 10x -5 =y+xy \rightarrow 10x-5 = y(x+1) \]

OpenStudy (daniel.ohearn1):

It keeps going can you see it now?

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

\[y = \frac{ 10x - 5 }{ x + 1}\]

OpenStudy (daniel.ohearn1):

x-1, I think it's good to double check.

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

gotcha thanks!

OpenStudy (johnnydicamillo):

it should be 5 - 10x

OpenStudy (daniel.ohearn1):

Yeah, it should factor out nicely \[\frac{ y+5 }{ y+10 }=x \rightarrow y+5=xy+10x \rightarrow y = (10x-5)/(1-x)\]

OpenStudy (daniel.ohearn1):

Something like that.
