Quick question. What does 'sin' , 'cos' , and 'tan' mean?

OpenStudy (ethan01):

A right-angled triangle is a triangle in which one of the angles is a right-angle. The hypotenuse of a right angled triangle is the longest side, which is the one opposite the right angle. The adjacent side is the side which is between the angle in question and the right angle

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

hey!

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

can you help me please @Atsie :)

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

|dw:1467818709403:dw| Sin,Cos and Tan are only applicable for RIGHT ANGLED TRIANGLE

Atsie (atsie):

@volleyballlover55 Not at the moment. I'm sorry, but I have some work that I really need to do. Try to tag some others on OS :) I'm sure you'll find someone ^.^ @mayankdevnani @Ethan01 Thank you both, but more what I'm looking for is like the definitions of these abbreviations.

OpenStudy (volleyballlover55):

ok thanks @Atsie

Atsie (atsie):

:)

OpenStudy (ethan01):

sin means:Sine, Cosine and Tangent are the main functions used in Trigonometry and are based on a Right-Angled Triangle. Before getting stuck into the functions, it helps to give a name to each side of a right triangle: "Opposite" is opposite to the angle θ "Adjacent" is adjacent (next to) to the angle θ

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

There ain't any definitions for it ! there are formulae !

OpenStudy (ethan01):

cos means:The cosine function, along with sine and tangent, is one of the three most common trigonometric functions. In any right triangle, the cosine of an angle is the length of the adjacent side (A) divided by the length of the hypotenuse (H). In a formula, it is written simply as 'cos'.

Atsie (atsie):

Thank you both very much! :)

OpenStudy (ethan01):

tan means:If you have a right triangle with side lengths given and an angle (theta), you can easily find the sine, cosine, and tangent trig functions. Remember that the longest side of the triangle is the 'HYPOTENUSE', the side directly opposite theta is the 'OPPOSITE', and the other side next to theta is the 'ADJACENT' side.

OpenStudy (mayankdevnani):

|dw:1467818951324:dw| suppose we have an angle C named `theta` Can you find out the hypotenuse of the triangle ?
