I just wanted to share and say a few things that have happened lately....
I am grateful to be able to call America my second home. Last night when I saw the video of Alton Sterling being killed, it left me feeling disheartened, emotional, and truly scared, I woke up this morning with a strong need to say something. Its impossible to ignore that the relationship between black and brown communities and law enforcement remains as strained as it was decades ago. No one begins their life as a hashtag. Yet the trend of being reduced to one continues. This is real and im concerned. Concerned for the safety of my family, my friends, and any human being that could fall victim to this pattern. I do not know the answer. But I believe things can change for the better. Open and honest dialogue is the first step. My thoughts and prayers are with the Sterling family and any family that has lost someone to this cycle of violence. Be safe out there. More life. ~ Drake
When I saw this message from Drake I was truly touched. I could relate in so many ways. I myself am proud to call USA my second home and I care about this country. Sadly, its hard to ignore that racism, injustice, and segregation have led to so many things like the death of Alton Sterling and the death of police officers in Dallas, Texas. Its a shame to see that one act leads to a worse act. Sadly, things are getting worse each and every day. This has become a huge problem and it must be stopped. People are living in fear because of all the injustice. Police officers are here to protect and serve their community, but it seems like its the opposite. Things can change for the better. But we have to start with ourselves. We have to start making changes to good, starting with the person standing in the mirror. My prayers and condolences go out to the families of all the people and officers that have been killed and wounded by these shootings.
Well said @Kendricklamar2014 :)

@KendrickLamar2014 Since I can remember, I've always wanted to be proud to call America my home but its hard when there are riots in the streets, bombings and shootings state-wide, and overall the sudden unnatural thing has become so natural. That is to have disdain for human life. I'm proud of you for speaking your mind on this because whether its on a simple little study site or coming from somebody famous, it matters. Every little word, breath, and syllable matters to ensure others that they are not the only ones that know whats going on and that they are not the only ones in pain as well. To be frank, I'm frightened of what society is turning into and I'm frightened of the fact that I'm even here in the midst of it. But what I'm not frightened of is to speak my mind. My mind says that though we are all flawed and fallen creatures, we have the capability to do good and change something even if its one step at a time. Cowardliness and laziness should be no excuse and there are plenty of us who ARE cowardly and that in itself shapes this country into its own bowl of weakness. For those of us that care, we get this. We see examples like whats been happening in Dallas and whats happened in Orlando and what we essentially see missing is justice. To second what you said Ken, the first change is looking in the mirror. To add to that, the second change is realizing you are alive for a reason and the third is that you make a decision to do whats right and to do what you believe in. <3
I 100% agree with everything you said @Atsie
Its good to know that this boat holds two instead of one. :) @KendrickLamar2014
I give it an A+ or a 150%
entire reputations of the "police" because of some actions done by a couple of "police" the good things that are done by police insanely outweigh the negatives, not saying the 2 people recently killed by police should have lost their lives, but for their lives, hundreds and thousands are saved by "police"
I never said cops are bad or that I am looking down at them. I clearly said: "Police officers are here to protect and serve their community, but it seems like its the opposite". I admire that cops sacrifice there lives for others, but I dont like that some (not all) are killing innocent people for no reasons. The deaths are usually from Hispanic or Black backgrounds, which makes people wonder if there is a separation between American and Hispanics/Black people. This is a problem.
Many people can say: "Oh its just 2 people that were killed, its not big issue". But as time progress, things WILL get worse. I'm afraid to say that it could go back to when there was a racial segregation in the USA. I'm glad there are people that are alert about this topic and want to do something about. We should encourage people and not try to put this topic to the side.
Sad but true..
Since i read that post i wanna delete it. yaboom. :(
I agree with ,Police officers are here to protect and serve their community, but it seems like its the opposite. , it is everywhere that
@KendrickLamar2014 Lets not forget that Alton Sterling was a sex offender and a felon. Alton Sterling possibly well could of been going for a gun. Alton Sterling was fighting with the police officers, which the police officers was called there because Alton Sterling was threatening someone with his gun. I am sorry but I do not feel sorry for a criminal who could have easily shot one of those cops, who put their lives on the line for us daily. If anyone deserves sympathy it is Tamir Rice, who was a 12 year old boy in a park with a toy gun that was shot and killed by a police officer. Also the 9 year old girl that died by a stray bullet should be recognized https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAZ6I14rSqkCriminals People like Alton Sterling, who want to do harm to others do not deserve sympathy or respect. Also, there is no reason to be afraid of cops. Just do what they say and it is as easy as that...
That's right @Polymorphism
I would say that 1% of cops are bad, the rest are out to protect us. Some of those who you call "innocent" have criminal records and probably are not repentant of it. Some people are the victim of police because they deserve it (committed a crime).
So your saying that any criminal should be shot because of what he/she did and not feel sympathy for them? Its not about what the guy did before its about the act. I saw the video of when he was shot. I never saw him reaching for a gun, on the contrary he was laying down on the floor with hardly any movement. The point im making is not only on him, but on the rest of the people that have been unfairly shot by the police. Its sad to see someone unfairly die whether they are criminals or not, we are all humans.
@KendrickLamar2014 stated "So your saying that any criminal should be shot because of what he/she did and not feel sympathy for them?" No I am not saying that. I am saying if a criminal such as Alton Sterling fights with the policy and gets shot I have no sympathy. Make note, the only reason the cops came was because Alton Sterling was threatening another person with a gun. He was not a nice person who wanted to give out hugs. Alton Sterling was a sex offender, felon, which should not of had a gun at all and he was threatening a person with his gun. Also, I seen the videos and you cannot really tell what he was trying to do so don't act like Alton Sterling is an innocent person like the 12 year old boy that got shot...
@KendrickLamar2014 I'm saying if the cops feel any threat to their lives, then yes. They are humans too.
@KendrickLamar2014 Also, if you look, a lot of the people(not all) who have been shot has fought the police and had a criminal background. You cannot fight with the police and expect not to get shot. Criminals have fought with cops many of times and taken the cop's gun and shot the innocent cop. Also, it should be AllLivesMatter. Watch this video and she will tell you the problems with the BlackLivesMatter movement... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MAZ6I14rSqkCriminals Also, more white people have been shot by cops than African Americans but white people make up the majority of America. Also, just to let you know, I am Black and White.
Like I said before. One crime leads to another. I do recognize that he was a criminal, but he did not draw a gun while being arrested. He was on the ground and witnesses say that he was going to grab his i.d. Police shot him after he said he was going to get his i.d.
@KendrickLamar2014 would you like to back that claim about an ID? You have a link from a credible source? Either case, he was not suppose to have a gun since he was a felon. The police officers had no way to know if he was going for a gun or ID. They told him not to move but he continue to fight. Most criminals will tell you they are doing something innocent and then next thing you know you have a gun in your face and you are dead. Cops cannot take that chance. They have a family they like to go home to at the end of the day. Alton Sterling, should have never fought with the cop. Do what the cop says and you will not get shot. So he should never had fought with the cops and he should have never threaten another person with his gun, which the other person is the one that called on him and why the police showed up in the first place.
I saw it on the news while I was at my cousins house. I don't know what channel it was on tho since I didn't have the remote. I saw the video there too. Everything that I know about this case is from that news report. I saw an experimental video after this case. Same town where this happened. A white male held a AK-47 around his body and the cops confronted the man (without guns) and told him what he was doing with a gun. Same place, a black male held the same gun and in the same place. The cops showed up and went out of the car with guns in there hands telling him to stop and lay on the ground. He did as he was told and the cops came and while he was handcuffed on the ground was being questioned. The women recording all of this was his wife, they asked her why she was recording and pointed the gun at her as well. She told them she was recording for evidence and that she couldn't get on the ground since she was pregnant.
@KendrickLamar2014 I seen some of those on youtube. I am not saying people do not profile. There are White people just as well as Black people that racially profile people. For instance, Philando Castile, who was the guy that got shot in the car with his girlfriend and child in it, was shot by a Chinese officer. BlackLivesMatter is more concern with cops and white people but yet in our own community more of us die by black and mexican gang bangers than cops but you do not see any protest about that do you?. You do not see the protesters holding up pictures of Tamir Rice or the 9 year old girl shot dead by a stray bullet but you see them holding up pictures of thugs like Alton Sterling. AllLivesMatter
I think this subject is too controversial and we should drop the subject. We respect both your view points but this can easily lead to an argument which we don't want. So, it would be best if we stopped :b
I agree. The topic is turning into an argument which I did not want.
agreed @polymorphism
I personally do not see any of this as an arugument or turning into an arugument. I see it as people having different views. If this is an argument then it appears no one can have a different view or opinion unless it is an argument or turning into an argument, which would be sad.. I see it more as a debate, which embodies the ideals and opinions of each person and allows for rigorous self-examination. Also, debates allows for people with opposing views to discuss controversial issues without descending to insult, personal bias or emotional appeals. Personally, I am mature enough not to descend into that type of conduct. I am not arguing by any means but just simply stating my view. Even though all views might not align with my own, I welcome all views.. Through debate we learn and grow.
