OpenStudy (karuna):

Hi! How do you separate 'speak', 'talk', 'tell', and 'say'? Please, tell me.

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

Define "seperate."

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

There isn't really a specific difference, they're just used in different ways.

OpenStudy (karuna):

What situation we can use 'speak'? For example, Are they not same, 'She is speaking to her friend.' or 'She is talking to her.' I want to know how different.

OpenStudy (karuna):

Sorry, I mistyped.

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

They're not that different actually. You can use them in the exact same way in the exact same situation.

OpenStudy (karuna):

Thank you for your reply!

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

Although the main way how "tell" is different from the rest of the bunch is that there's usually a person that "tell" is being acted upon.

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

Like you can say something, but you could be in a completely empty room where no one will listen to your nonsensical rants, but when you tell something, there has to be someone who has to endure your stupidity.

OpenStudy (kyanthedoodle):

Unless you consider a table a person of course, in which case I am very sorry for you.
