It is known as a premise that LDL cholesterol has been show to increase the chance of heart disease, and HDL cholesterol actually moves cholesterol from the circulatory system to the liver. True or False? HDL cholesterol also plays an important role in healthy hormone production. True or False? Only meat products contain LDL cholesterol, while only the body contains HDL cholesterol. True or False?
True. cholesterol can get converted to other sterols and derivatives that you may be familiar with... progesterone, glucocorticoids etc. https://metabolichealing.com/cholesterol-your-body-is-incapable-of-making-hormones-without-it/ Second one my assumption is our bodies naturally have LDL and HDL. We need both and they facilitate storage and transport of circulating plasma lipids and a balance of both is needed for proper functioning. When there is too much LDL depositing cholesterol in blood vessels that's bad thus HDL is supposed to compensate by shuttling some of this away from the blood vessels.
So only meat raises LDL and HDL levels?
It's a complicated process you'll really only get detail if you undertake a course in the biochemistry of lipids. Basically any intake of fats and oils will lead to some change in LDL and HDL levels (which includes fish, nuts) down the track. The body must contain both LDL and HDL. They don't exist independently of each other. In fact it's a misconception that LDL and HDL are the fat/cholesterol molecules themselves. They aren't, they are actually proteins that can bind to and transport of fats. So what you are taking from diet isn't strictly LDL or HDL, it's just fats and oils which our bodies will assign LDL and other lipid carrying molecules to sort, transport and store. There are actually more lipoproteins than LDL and HDL which serve in different body compartments eg. stomach, intestines. The main thing is LDL and HDL are complementary shuttlers of cholesterol between the liver and tissues.
