OpenStudy (luffingsails):

What does reference angle really mean? Do you have the definition?

OpenStudy (maemae16):

No i do not

OpenStudy (luffingsails):

Well, you know that 120 degrees is in the second quadrant, right? So the reference angle is the angle that "represents" 120 degrees by preserving all of the co-terminal angles.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

@maemae16 In math, if we know the definition of terms we are working with, and math would be VERY easy.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

*then

OpenStudy (maemae16):

i was never given the definition

OpenStudy (shadowlegendx):

1128, what could it mean

OpenStudy (mathmate):

The definition is explained in the above link. If you want a short and dry definition, then a reference angle of a given angle is the acute angle it makes with the horizontal (x-) axis, always considered positive.

OpenStudy (mathmate):

Also An acute angle is one which is less than 90 degrees, irrespective of sign.
