OpenStudy (mrs.williams):

I originaly got the answer 18 as my answer but it says its incorrect :/ (((((Follow these instructions to make a geometric design using a compass and a straightedge. Then answer the question. 1. Use a compass to draw a large circle. 2. Without changing the compass setting, place the point of the compass on the circle and make a mark that intersects the circle. 3. Move the point of the compass to the mark you made and make another mark that intersects the circle. 4. Continue in this way around the circle until you come back to the first mark. (Hint: The last mark might not co

OpenStudy (mrs.williams):

(Hint: The last mark might not coincide precisely with the first mark, but your drawing should look something like the sketch.) 5. Select one of the marks on the circle and use a straightedge to draw line segments connecting that mark to all the marks that are not next to it. 6. Repeat the process for each mark on the circle. How many line segments did you draw?)))

OpenStudy (mrs.williams):

hello?

OpenStudy (phi):

how did you get 18 ?

OpenStudy (mrs.williams):

I connected the lines to eachother with out it touching the other things

OpenStudy (mrs.williams):

((( Select one of the marks on the circle and use a straightedge to draw line segments connecting that mark to all the marks that are not next to it.)))) I did this step and it came out to 18

OpenStudy (phi):

OK, how many marks do you have before you start drawing lines ?

OpenStudy (mrs.williams):

6

OpenStudy (phi):

ok, and say you pick a starting mark. you will be able to draw a line to the other 5 marks. (that is 5 lines) ok with that ?

OpenStudy (phi):

now move to the next mark. that mark will already have a line connecting it to the first mark (so we don't draw it) that a leaves 4 other marks we can draw lines to. so 4 more lines then 3 then 2 then 1 I think the answer is 5+4+3+2+1

OpenStudy (mrs.williams):

I thought they ment it couldnt touch anything besides it like this )1 )2 )3 so if i was using )2 it couldnt touch 1 or 3?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, you are right. let me think some more.

OpenStudy (mrs.williams):

the options for answers is 8 , 9 , 6 , or 18

OpenStudy (phi):

if we don't connect to its two neighbors, I get 3+ 3+ 2+ 1 |dw:1468439041047:dw|
