OpenStudy (babyjayy):

Solve for x: |x| − 8 = −5 x = −13 and x = −3 x = 3 and x = −3 x = 3 and x = 13 No solution im thinking it might be A but not sure

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

\(|x|=a\implies x=a\) or \(x=-a\)

OpenStudy (evoker):

Second choice, get the absolute value alone on one side and then set to positive and negative.

OpenStudy (babyjayy):

im lost?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

Here is an example \(|x|+13=26\) First we need to get the \(|x|\) by itself on one side of the equals sign. \(|x|=13\) Noe we are done, because once we get it on one side. The solution is just the positive and negative version of the number on the other side. So \(x=13\) and \(x=-13\).

OpenStudy (babyjayy):

ok but what happens to the 26 ?

alones (alones):

add 8 to both sides. |x|−8+8=−5+8 |x|=3 Than solve the absolute value. |x|=3 We know eitherx=3 or x=−3 so you probably shpould get two possabilities ;)

alones (alones):

Thanks @thesmartone lol

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

for what? :P
