OpenStudy (campayne):

Tell if a triangle can have side lengths of 7, 9, and 11. If so, classify the triangle as acute, obtuse, or right. yes; right yes; acute yes; obtuse no

OpenStudy (evoker):

As for can it be a triangle insure that any two sides add up to a number larger than the third

OpenStudy (evoker):

ah and for the other check if a^2+b^2 is <, equal to , or > the c^2. > acute, < is obtuse, and = is right.

OpenStudy (campayne):

so... now what?

OpenStudy (evoker):

Well, that was the question, so go through those two steps to figure out which, as I said if a^+b^2 is smaller that c^2 it is obtuse, if they are greater than c^2 it is acute, and if they equal c^2 it is a right triangle

OpenStudy (evoker):

C will be the longest side.

OpenStudy (evoker):

So for this case 7^2+9^2 is 130 while 11^2 is 121

OpenStudy (campayne):

indeed true

OpenStudy (evoker):

Therefore this is an acute triangle, and since any two sides add up to more than the third it is a triangle

OpenStudy (campayne):

but how do you know it's acute?

OpenStudy (evoker):

Since the 130 is larger than 121

OpenStudy (campayne):

ohhhhhh okay i think i got it

OpenStudy (campayne):

thx
