OpenStudy (tanishaa12):

Find the third term of (x^2+2)^4

OpenStudy (robtobey2):

\[x^8+8 x^6+24 x^4+32 x^2+16 \]

OpenStudy (mrnood):

no explanation = no learning = no use to poster

OpenStudy (robtobey2):

It's obvious that the expression has to be expanded, "multplied out", to uncover the complete x^4 terms

OpenStudy (mrnood):

@Tanishaa12 I suggest you look at 'Binomial Expansion' There is a method for the GENERAL expansion of (a+b)^n which will enable you to solve ALL such questions rather than being given the answer to just this one. The expansion follows fairly simple process and the coefficients of each term can easily be remembered or generated using Pascal's triangle. If you learn this method you not need to 'obviously' multiply it out, and you will have a tool for future use, not just an answer to your current problem. This is a link to a good starting point: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Binomial_theorem
