Should the right to privacy be applied to the Census Bureau, credit card companies, and Internet sites as they collect personal information? Why or why not?
Think about what you would like done with your information. Would you like your credit card information to be public? Anybody with your number can charge to your credit card. What about your purchase history? Is it OK for the credit card company to let other people know how much you owe or what you have been buying with the credit card? If you shop for lacy pink underwear on Amazon, is it ok for Amazon to sell that information to a site that sells gay porn if you are male? If you check the price of cat food at WalMart is it ok for them to sell that info to pet stores. What if the pet store wants to send you free samples or coupons. Is it OK then? Census information records where you live, how many people live at the same address, ages. That information is gathered by the government every 10 years as required by the Constitution. What can the government do with that information. Should they be able to sell it? Currently that info becomes public 70 years after it was collected. The 1940 Census data was released in 2010. What if you're 84 years old. Do you care if people know about your family when you were 14? What if you are looking for information on how to build a bomb? Should government know about that? Should they know what websites you read? Think about your answers and why you are OK or not OK with your information being soled or watched. The writing should be pretty easy after that.
Thank you soooo very much!
