OpenStudy (hdrager):

solve for x

OpenStudy (hdrager):

\[\sqrt{x^2-9}=x-1\]

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

square both sides

OpenStudy (hdrager):

x^2-9=x^2+10

OpenStudy (hdrager):

but how do i get it so the two x^2 don't cancel out?

sam (.sam.):

No? \[\sqrt{x^2-9}=x-1 \\ \\ x^2-9= (x-1)^2 \\ \\ x^2-9= (x-1)(x-1) \\ \\ x^2-9= x^2-2x+1 \\ \\ -9= -2x+1 \\ \\ ?\]

OpenStudy (hdrager):

since i'm solving for x

OpenStudy (hdrager):

ohhhhh

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Good work Sam :)
