OpenStudy (igster1112):

The circumference of a circular patio with a radius of 3 feet, 3 inches is ____.

OpenStudy (evoker):

Convert to all inches or all feet and then use circumference equals two * pi * radius.

OpenStudy (igster1112):

It's 39 inches total.

OpenStudy (igster1112):

Pie is 3.14 right?

OpenStudy (evoker):

That is an approximation for it

OpenStudy (evoker):

Most calculators have a built in pi button also

OpenStudy (igster1112):

I got 244.92. When I posted this question yesterday I was told the answer was 20 feet, 5 inches and that's not correct.

OpenStudy (evoker):

That is if you convert

OpenStudy (igster1112):

How do I convert it?

OpenStudy (evoker):

245 inches is 20 feet 5 inches

OpenStudy (evoker):

you would take the answer and first divide by 12 to get the feet part.

OpenStudy (igster1112):

So the answer is correct? I'll have to ask my teacher tomorrow to make sure.

OpenStudy (evoker):

Yes that is the same answer just not converted into feet and inches

OpenStudy (evoker):

Anyways you would divide by 12 which gives you 20 and a fraction

OpenStudy (evoker):

if you then take the fraction and multiply by 12 you will get the left over inches.

OpenStudy (igster1112):

I got 20.41 after dividing it.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Didn't we do this question together yesterday?

OpenStudy (igster1112):

We did but I went to class today and was told the answer isn't correct.

OpenStudy (igster1112):

I'm really finna just give up and let the teacher explain it.

OpenStudy (evoker):

.41*12 is approx 5

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

20.41 20 feets + 0.41 feet 5/12 inches is 0.41 feet 20.41 = 20 feet 5 inches

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

(5 inches is appoximately 0.41 feet)

OpenStudy (igster1112):

See that's what I thought too. This math is confusing. Imma leave it up to the teacher at this point but thanks for your help. ☺

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Ask your teacher what format the answer should be written in :-)

OpenStudy (igster1112):

Ok I will. 👍

OpenStudy (mathmale):

igster1112 Pie is 3.14 right? To demonstrate the depth of your understanding of basic math, please use the spelling pi, not pie. I like cherry pie, but leave that aside when discussing circles. pi, OK?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

"The circumference of a circular patio with a radius of 3 feet, 3 inches is ____ ??? " Note: 3 ft, 3 in, is the same as 3.25 ft, or 3 1/4 ft. Prove this. Circumference: 2 pi r (2 times pi times the length of the radius, r).

OpenStudy (mathmale):

Thus, Circumference, C, is \[C = 2 \pi (3.25 ft) \] Use a reasonable approx for pi, such as 3.14, as you have no justification for using more decimal places than that. Share your work here, please, if you want feedback.
