Help me in calculus If a ball is thrown into the air with a velocity of 40ft/s, its height in feet t seconds later is given by y = 40t - 16t^2. Estimate the instantaneous velocity when t = 2

OpenStudy (steve816):

Also, I took pre-calculus honors last year and I started AP Calculus BC today, but I forgot everything over the summer and calculus is too hard! Please give me some life advice.

OpenStudy (evoker):

Hmm well its velocity will be the derivative with respect to time. There are various methods of estimating which depends on what you are learning now. As for the life advice, your could perhaps try AP Calculus AB instead, though I would always recommend talking to your school advisor.

Find the average rate of change from t = 2 to t = 2+h h is some small value (h = 0.01 or h = 0.001) The smaller h is, the more accurate the instantaneous velocity would be
