OpenStudy (kyliewesson):

Should existing structures build from CCA-treated wood be removed? Which argument did you find most convincing?

OpenStudy (kyliewesson):

They need to figure out a way to dispose of them. Some people have decided that coming into contact with CCA-treated woods may cause cancer. For against the treated wood they believe that it may cause cancer or soak into the ground. They are also scared that little kids are going to touch the treated wood and then stick their hands into their mouths. With the treated wood, there are arguments that soil carries mores arsenic then the treated wood does. They believe that it will cause less harm then the soil. I believe that the existing structures should be removed. Even if there is a possibility they don't cause cancer, there is still a posing risk to individual's health from it. Young children may also touch the wood, as they said, and stick their unwashed hands in their mouths. They don't know of the risks of CCA-treated wood and could be harming themselves by doing this. In removing CCA-treated structures they are cutting down on the risk it poses to people. The argument I agree with is getting rid of the CCA-treated structures. Even if they're not a hundred percent sure that it can cause illnesses they also don't know if it's a hundred percent safe. So, in the long run, it is safer for everybody and everything to get rid of the CCA-treated structures instead of risking the harm it may cause to people.
