OpenStudy (samara89):

What pair of numbers are relatively prime? A.11 and 121 B. 35 and 125 C. 39 and 75 D. 39 and 49

OpenStudy (samara89):

@TheSmartOne

OpenStudy (samara89):

@zepdrix

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Understanding what relatively prime means will help you with this question! Check out this link and than tell me what you think it is! https://www.mathsisfun.com/definitions/relatively-prime.html (really short)

OpenStudy (samara89):

so they have to be evenly divided by 2 to be a realitively prime number

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Nope that would make them not relatively prime

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

You may have read this part wrong 6 and 20 are not relatively prime because you can evenly divide both by 2 (2 is a common factor). it says not

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Basically you can't divide by anything without getting an uneven number unless it's 1 or the number itself

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Now what do you think the answer is?

OpenStudy (samara89):

B

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Nope you can divided 125 by 25 to get 5

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

and you can divided 35 to get 5 sevens

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Lets think of it this way what can you divide 39 by?

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

@Samara89

OpenStudy (samara89):

D

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Nope 7 times 7 is 49

OpenStudy (samara89):

C

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Yes, but I think your a little confused because it seemed like guessing I would advise looking into what a prime number is a little more! ^_^ (it's very useful)

OpenStudy (samara89):

the answer was d

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

that doesn't make any sense

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Wait I'm confused my self :o I'm so sorry

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Perhaps you can ask your teacher? I'm sure they would be happy to help you

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

Relatively prime doesn't necessarily mean that the two numbers have to be prime. It just means that the two numbers must have no other common factors besides 1.

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Yes, 39 and 49 have no common factors, so they are relatively prime.

OpenStudy (joannablackwelder):

Right, other than 1.

TheSmartOne (thesmartone):

39 and 75 have 3 in common besides 1

OpenStudy (mathwizzard3):

Ahhh thank you for explaining that to them (and me as well) I'll definitely remember!
