Help! Cohesion vs. Surface tension..are they the same thing or different? Ifs why are they different? Ty!

OpenStudy (whynotstudyalone):

Water property wise....

OpenStudy (photon336):

let's see Cohesion is the property of like molecules (of the same substance) to stick to each other due to mutual attraction. so it's the property of water molecules to stick to each-other. Adhesion is the property of different molecules or surfaces to cling to each other. so based on this I believe that the two terms would not be the same.

OpenStudy (whynotstudyalone):

Wait is adhesion surface tension?

OpenStudy (whynotstudyalone):

@Photon336 (sorry if I'm being annoying by pinging you)

OpenStudy (photon336):

That was my mistake

OpenStudy (photon336):

surface tension the tension of the surface film of a liquid caused by the attraction of the particles in the surface layer by the bulk of the liquid, which tends to minimize surface area.

OpenStudy (whynotstudyalone):

So no, right?

OpenStudy (photon336):

yeah, I believe that both terms are different.

OpenStudy (whynotstudyalone):

Thank you!
