What is the equation of the graph below?
A graph shows a parabola that opens up and crosses the x axis near one and a half and four and a half.
y = − (x − 3)2 − 2
y = − (x + 2)2 − 3
y = (x − 3)2 − 2
y = (x + 2)2 − 3

@.Sam. could u help?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
first of all the graph opens upwards so the first coefficient will not be negative.
OpenStudy (some.random.cool.kid):
ok
OpenStudy (some.random.cool.kid):
D
OpenStudy (some.random.cool.kid):
you knocked out all the rest tbh..

Its either C or D
the equation is in vertex form
(x - a)^2 + b where the vertex is at (a,b)
OpenStudy (some.random.cool.kid):
I would go with D, reason being C has a negative downward slope, yet the graph shows it spring back up?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
whAT ARE THE COORDINATES OF THE VERTEX ON THE GRAPH?
OpenStudy (some.random.cool.kid):
its like y = 2 and x is somewhere between 3 and 4 from what i see.. but it would be minus 3 i believe..
OpenStudy (welshfella):
compare C and D with the standard vertex form and yo#ll get the correct answer

what startles me is
the part where the end meets at minus 2
OpenStudy (welshfella):
- that is the vertex
|dw:1472508090510:dw|
OpenStudy (welshfella):
x = 3 and y = -2 at the vertex
OpenStudy (welshfella):
so a = 3 and y = -2 fits into the standard form
OpenStudy (welshfella):
which is C or D?

* a = 3 and b = -2
OpenStudy (welshfella):
b = -2 in the formula
OpenStudy (welshfella):
do you follow ?
OpenStudy (welshfella):
(x - a)^2 + b
a = 3 and b = -2
OpenStudy (welshfella):
just plug the values in
