OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Simplify the expression where possible. (-5x^2)^3 (2 and 3 are exponents) Isn't the answer -5x^6? (6 is an exponent) Because my schooling website says it's only partially right and I don't know what isn't right about it.

@sleepyjess

ILovePuppiesLol (ilovepuppieslol):

im known to be awful at mathematics with excessive amount of numerical digits

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

First we need to do (-5x^2), which would be -125x^2, -5 got squared and so did x, then we raise (-125x^2)^3, which would be -125x^6, you were just forgetting to do parentheses first :)

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Oh! Thank you! Sometimes I can forget the smallest (but most important) details. :P

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Wait, -5^2 would be 125, not -125, so it's actually 125x^6

OpenStudy (gracygirl):

Ah, thanks again :)

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

No problem :)
