OpenStudy (logiczz):

is x=-3 a solution to the equation -3x^2 = - 27

OpenStudy (brydenwright):

-3^2 is just -3 times negative 3, so multiply -3 three times, or -3*-3*-3

OpenStudy (kkutie7):

why don't we solve for x in the equation to the right?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

To find out if x=-3 a solution to the equation $$-3x^2 = -27$$ you substitute -3 into the equation for x and see if you get a true statement because that is the definition of a solution of an equation. $$-3(-3)^2 =?= -27$$
