Question in screenshot, please help!

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Take a look at this picture: |dw:1472947559604:dw| If you need more help go to: http://www.mathwarehouse.com/geometry/angle/vertical-angles.php This website is really helpful!

OpenStudy (brainzonly):

vertical angles are to angles directly opposite each other. Did that help?

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

@Im still confused @brainzonly

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

@brainzonly I understand the concept but I dont understand the answers to my question

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Towards the end of the video but you might want to watch it all.

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

@BlazeRyder can you show me and an example using multiple lines like the one in my question? Thats what is confusing me

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Sure, one sec!

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

|dw:1472950009293:dw|

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Okay, so as you can see all of the points are labeled. And if you can't see it, where all of the points intersect is labeled I. So, Angle AIB & FIE are vertical angles. This is because they are opposite of each other and have the same angle measurement. They also share a vertex. BIC & GIF are vertical angles because they are opposite, probably have the same angle measure and also share a vertex. Does this help you a little bit?

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

AIH would be considered a vertical angle to right? @blazeryder

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Almost. To make your statement above true you have have to add angle DIE. AIH and DIE are vertical angles. Vertical angles come in pairs. There will always be two angles in your answer.

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Oh okay now I understand it

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Thanks alot!

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

No problem! I remember having a hard time learning this so I know what you felt like! Have a good day!

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

@BlazeRyder, from what you told me it seems that only letter B. applies, can you confirm this?

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

I take that back, Letter D also applies aswell correct?

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

I would say yes. Both B & D. =)

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Thanks! now I know i fully understand, thanks alot @blazeRyder

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

No problem! Glad I could help!

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Could you help with this? @blazeryder

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

I know one of the answers is B

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

What do you know about perpendicular lines?

OpenStudy (brainzonly):

sorry, I was offline. looks like I missed a bit...

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

I forgot what it means but im gonna search it right now

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Let me know when you are done with that =)

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

two lines which meet at a right angle (90 degrees)

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Right! So from the question, what does the little |dw:1472952027169:dw| line mean?

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Perpendicular

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Because the two lines meet to form a right angle correct

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Exactly! So we can assume that line AB and XY are perpendicular. Now since the 2 lines are perpendicular we can assume all angle are 90 degrees.

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Now what does a supplementary angle and complementary angle mean?

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Supplemntary is when 2 angles to 180 complimentary is 90 degrees

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Which means they are complimentary

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Perfect!

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

So that means B,C,D are correct?

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Close, A and C are saying that if you add these two angles together this is the kind of angle it would form.

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

At least this is what I think the question implies.

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

You think so? mabye they meant them as seperate

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

You could be right on that one...... I would submit it and if you get it wrong, make sure to take note for future questions. As you progress in grade level, they try to trick you!

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Right, Im gonna go along with just B and D, its unusual for there to be 3 correct answers on a 4 answer choice question anyways

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

on apex that is

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

Ahhhh, my school does that all the time so.....

OpenStudy (lilkg77):

Yep, thanks for the help! @blazeryder

OpenStudy (blazeryder):

No problem!
