OpenStudy (ellie201):

Kyphosis, Explain about it please I will Medal. I have read a bunch of sites but I don't really get what it is.

OpenStudy (ellie201):

I get it is a curve of the spine but is it a disease or disorder and what ages does it effect?

OpenStudy (owen_turner):

Hunchback (kyphosis) usually refers to an abnormally curved spine. It's most common in older women and often related to osteoporosis. Some people with kyphosis have back pain and stiffness. Others have no symptoms other than an exaggerated forward rounding of the back. Severe kyphosis can cause pain and be disfiguring. Treatment may include medications for pain, physical therapy, and sometimes surgery.

OpenStudy (ellie201):

Can you prevent it?

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

Kyphosis Definition. Kyphosis is an exaggerated curvature of the upper (thoracic) spine that creates a hunchback appearance. It can result from developmental problems, degenerative diseases (such as arthritis), osteoporosis with compression fractures of the vertebrae, and trauma to the spine.

RhondaSommer (rhondasommer):

I have kyphosis.

OpenStudy (owen_turner):

I'm pretty sure that would be through a chiropractor, exercise, or Spinal Therapy.
