Read the paragraph. Then answer the question that follows. Perhaps you wanted pizza for dinner, but was out voted by the rest of the family who wanted chili. This is similar to what happens in a community. One person has to give up a right for the good of the group. Sometimes citizens' duties and rights conflict with each other. A good example is a public protest. People have the right to meet in groups and share ideas. However, a protest can disrupt traffic or other normal activities. A city must provide extra police protection to keep people safe. Therefore, the city has the right to require permission in advance for a protest. Government must make laws to balance the rights of individuals and different groups of people. How is the example of a public protest similar to the family dinner vote? Both require government laws to maintain order and safety. Both show conflict between the rights of individuals and groups. Both explain why the rights of groups always win over individual wants. Both demonstrate the downside of depending on voting to make decisions.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

I thought we did this one already... :P

OpenStudy (milo123):

no it was wrong

OpenStudy (milo123):

its not c lol

OpenStudy (milo123):

b maybe?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Oooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.... I see what was wrong now.

OpenStudy (milo123):

what?

OpenStudy (milo123):

is it B?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yeah, the conflicts... You're right.

OpenStudy (milo123):

oh ok lol

OpenStudy (milo123):

This one was also wrong... Read the paragraph. Then answer the question that follows. The USS Alabama, built in 1942, is a monster weighing in at 35,000 tons. The ship was built during the Second World War and spent 40 months actively assisting the war effort in the Pacific Ocean. During that time, she was in 26 battles. In 1964, the ship moved to her present home in Mobile, Alabama. What type of text connection is in this paragraph and how do you know? An analogy, because the USS Alabama is to a monster as a battle is to war An analogy, because the USS Alabama is noted as being as big as a monster A comparison, because the USS Alabama is to a monster as a battle is to war A comparison, because the USS Alabama is noted as being as big as a monster

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Oh, for this one, did you choose A or did you choose B?

OpenStudy (milo123):

a...

OpenStudy (milo123):

i thought it was b but you convinced me it was a lol

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yeah, after you left the question I looked over it again and noticed that they weren't using "battle" and "war" as a metaphor, so you were correct. I hoped you would look back at it before submitting it, should've tagged you. D:

OpenStudy (milo123):

thats ok thanks!

OpenStudy (milo123):

ok last one:p Read the paragraph. Then answer the question that follows. Perhaps you wanted pizza for dinner, but were out voted by the rest of the family who wanted chili. OpenStudy (milo123):

b? C?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Well, what can we eliminate?

OpenStudy (milo123):

a

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Yea, agreed.

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

How does category fit?

OpenStudy (milo123):

i think that might be it what do you think

OpenStudy (milo123):

so C?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

How are you defining category?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

I honestly don't think it fits, but it depends on your school's definition.

OpenStudy (milo123):

I guess not really...maybe analogy. what school do you go to?

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

I was thinking analogy as well, as it is using examples to help make the idea more clear. I am not currently attending any school. I've graduated High School and am now saving up for college. :)

OpenStudy (milo123):

oh cool! i am only in 8th grade

OpenStudy (milo123):

lol it wasn't b either *_* oh well!

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Analogy wasn't B, it was D. :P But hey, 8th grade! That's pretty cool! Are you enjoying school so far?

OpenStudy (milo123):

yeah as much as i can lol! and i meant for this one... The USS Alabama, built in 1942, is a monster weighing in at 35,000 tons. The ship was built during the Second World War and spent 40 months actively assisting the war effort in the Pacific Ocean. During that time, she was in 26 battles. OpenStudy (milo123):

whitemonsterbunny17 (whitemonsterbunny17):

Oh, strange... Yeah, this one is tricky.

OpenStudy (milo123):
