OpenStudy (gotquestions281):

Can someone help me with this? I'm at a loss, not sure how to solve this problem. http://i.imgur.com/OMZZlY4.jpg Thanks :)

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

so first, what does p stand for?

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

@gotquestions281

OpenStudy (gotquestions281):

P is the entire population, while P hat is the sampled population. Right?

OpenStudy (gotquestions281):

@FibonacciChick666

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

Pmales = 48% as the passage states.

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

100% - 48% = ? for Pfemales

OpenStudy (gotquestions281):

52%

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

p stands for proportion in this case. Phat is sample proportion

OpenStudy (fibonaccichick666):

it gets confusing in stats since the same letters stand for different things so often

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

So, now you have two boxes filled out of the four. For the sample population, you may divide 11 by 25 for the male proportion. While using the same technique of subtracting that value from 100 for the female proportion.

OpenStudy (gotquestions281):

So it would be 44% for the males and 56% for the females?

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

Yes, correct. Goodjob!

OpenStudy (gotquestions281):

Thanks for the help :)
