OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

Can someone help me find the domain and range of the function (written in interval notation) using the graph I've attached?

OpenStudy (jadareese_18):

OpenStudy (twwc960):

The domain is the set of all x such that the function is defined. Inspecting the graph, we have corresponding y values for all x strictly greater than -6 and less than or equal to -1 as well as for x strictly greater than 1 and less than or equal to 5. The domain is thus,: (-6,-1] ∪ (1,5]. The range is the set of y values that have x values corresponding to them so in a similar fashion that the method used to compute the domain, we find that the range is (-3,2] ∪ [3,7). (Note round brackets are used when the end point is NOT to be included in the interval, and square brackets are used when the corresponding end point IS included.)

Thank you so much! That really helped clear things up for me. I appreciate the help a lot @twwc960
