Well...|dw:1474137882469:dw| When the waves come up on a shallow portion, and say meet the shore, the waves try to cram themselves in the shallow waters. Gravity prevents them from doing that, do they rebound back into the ocean. The force of water is often so great that if the water hits rock, it will over time create "sea caves" which are just another way of saying that the water found a weak spot in the rock and undercut an underwater channel into the rock.
