OpenStudy (matthewdaddario):

Consider the dilation. Pre-image: A(−4, 2), B(4, 4), and C(−1, 2) Image: A′(−2, 1), B′(2, 2), and C′(−1/2, 1) Is the dilation an expansion or contraction? What is the scale factor?

OpenStudy (will.h):

Okay so to find the scale factor let's take the x values of the points A and A' And know that we should divide the image on the pre image to find the scale factor -2/-4 = 0.5 that's the scale factor. To verify you may multiply that by the pre image coordinates.

OpenStudy (will.h):

And since the scale factor less than 1 then it is contraction

OpenStudy (matthewdaddario):

Thank you so much!

OpenStudy (will.h):

You welcome
