What is the range of f(x) = square root of -x ? x≥ 0 y ≥ 0 y ≤ 0 all real numbers

OpenStudy (mww):

when you take the square root of a number, what numbers can result?

OpenStudy (gabrielv579):

all real numbers?

OpenStudy (welshfella):

-x = -1x what is the square root of -1?

OpenStudy (gabrielv579):

1

OpenStudy (gabrielv579):

could it be a

OpenStudy (mww):

You can only result in a positive number if you take a sqrt, ignoring imaginary numbers. The transformation f(x) -> f(-x) is just a 180 degree swivel of f(x) about the y-axis: |dw:1475247354497:dw| So the range is unchanged from that of y = sqrt(x)
