Which of these lines from "The Story of an Hour" describes Mrs. Mallard's initial reaction upon learning of her husband's death? There was something coming to her, and she was waiting for it, fearfully. The vacant stare and the look of terror that had followed it went from her eyes. Her pulses beat fast, and the coursing blood warmed and relaxed every inch of her body. She wept at once, with sudden, wild abandonment, in her sister's arms.

OpenStudy (nevillesnetwork):

Well, is the passage/story "The Story of an Hour" given to you along with the question?

OpenStudy (panda):

nope no passage or story :/

OpenStudy (nevillesnetwork):

Ok, well we can see that A is obviously not the answer. And B isn't the answer, seeing that the feeling of terror "went from", so she is no longer feeling frightened. That leaves C and D. What do you think it is?

OpenStudy (nevillesnetwork):

"went" **

OpenStudy (nevillesnetwork):

Honestly I don't think its C because it seems like she is recovering from something, seeing that it is describing how she is becoming relaxed. So, that means the answer is D which makes more sense than the other possible answers.
