Please help// ~Fan + Medal~ Explain how you would know if a polynomial of the form ax^2 + bxy + cy^2 was prime?

OpenStudy (mathmale):

If imaginary and/or complex roots are allowed, then every quadratic (which is what you have here) can be factored. You could apply the quadratic formula to "ax^2 + bxy + cy^2" Normally we'd work with y=ax^2 + bx + c, but here the coefficients are "a," "by" and "cy^2." Try applying the quadratic formula to this. x=??

OpenStudy (keythemusician):

x = a^2 + by + cy^2?
