A. repeating decimal B. rational C. irrational D. terminating decimal 3. Select all the rational numbers from the list. A. square root of 2 B.8.21221112221111 **** C. 8.333333333... D. square root of 80 E. square root of 25 4. Select all the irrational numbers from the list. A. square root of 16 B.square root of 7 ***** C. 813.1 **** D. -9 E. 8.070070007...

OpenStudy (lovebugg37):

I think 2 is c and 1 is c am I right and the ones with *** is my choice

OpenStudy (triciaal):

rational means it can be expressed as a ratio of 2 integers

OpenStudy (lovebugg37):

so is it a for 1

OpenStudy (vuriffy):

For 1, yes it is A.

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Here are another couple of ways to identify rational numbers. If the decimal terminates, then it will have a rational representation. For example: \(\rm 12.78931146\) is a rational number because the decimal ends (terminates). Alternatively, if the decimal does not terminate but goes on forever, it will still be rational if part of the decimal repeats a pattern over and over. Example: \(\large\rm 3.043131...\) is rational because the pattern 31 is repeating on forever.

OpenStudy (lovebugg37):

is the rest of them right

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Oh I didn't see your guesses :D haah

zepdrix (zepdrix):

Problem 2 is correct. In problem 3, notice that option B does not have a repeating pattern. The pattern keeps changing, more 2s and 1s as it goes along. So that won't be rational.

OpenStudy (lovebugg37):

so is 3 c or d

zepdrix (zepdrix):

There are several correct choices for problem 3. sqrt 2 is not rational because 2 is not a perfect square. sqrt 4 would be rational though, because 4 is 2^2. Do any of the other square root options have perfect squares? Use that information to figure out something about options D and E. And what's going on with C? Infinite decimal, but it has a repeating pattern. So we agreed that would be a rational number, yes good.

OpenStudy (lovebugg37):

so is it c or

OpenStudy (lovebugg37):

can you tell me if im right or wrong

OpenStudy (lovebugg37):

@Sila1453 can you help
