Algebra 7 Online
OpenStudy (cthatcher):

In what equation would I use the formula PEMDAS?

OpenStudy (keythemusician):

Something like this (7-2) * 4^2 / 2 - 3 + 1

OpenStudy (keythemusician):

\[(7-1) \times 4^{2} \div 2 - 3 + 1\]

OpenStudy (cthatcher):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (phi):

PEMDAS is not really a formula. It is a way to remember the "rules" for arithmetic so that everybody gets the same answer when they see complicated arithmetic.

OpenStudy (malonficent):

It is the general rule in solving equations. Thus, use it everytime. Keep in mind what this abbreviation means: P (Parenthesis), E (Exponent), M (Multiplication), D (Division), A (Addition), S (Subtraction) Mostly used in polynomial equations. Good luck and God bless :)
