i believe is the second and sixth am i right?
@mathstudent55
x is the number of pounds of cashews y is the pounds of almonds what is the total weight ? how do you write it ? any idea ?
7x+5y= <30???
>
if we use numbers instead of letters, for example 2 lbs of cashews and 3 lbs of almonds how do you write the total ?
2+3=5
yes. and you use the *same idea* when you have letters instead of numbers can you try to write what is the total pounds if we have x of cashews and y of almonds ?
ok its the first one and second to the last?
we have to work it out i.e. life will be easier for you if you learn the idea. the first step is to write the total pounds if you have x pounds plus y pounds can you try to write that using + sign ?
i thought i had it yesyerday someone was helping and got a f
x+y=
7+5
yes (but without the = sign ) x+y is how we write the sum it's not 7+5 because 7 and 5 are dollars , not pounds. we have x+y pounds next, they say we want less than 6 pounds we write x+y 6 and we have to put in < or > to remember which, we put the "smaller" (or pointy end) next to the smaller side and the "big" end of > or < next to the big side here 6 is the bigger number and the weight x+y is the smaller number
>
if you mean x+y > 6 that has the "big end" of > next to the x+y , which means the weight of the nuts is bigger than 6 is that what we want ?
ok so one answer is the fourth one x+y<6 right?
yes now we have to do the cost.
ok so the next would be the first answer
or the last one?
x+y is the weight we figure out the cost by doing cost per pound times number of pounds
7+5>6
@imqwerty
the cost for cashews is 7x the cost for almonds is 5y what is the total cost? can you write it with a + sign ?
the total cost is 7x+5y they want that to be no more than 30, or to say it another way, less than or equal to 30 7x+5y 30 we want the 30 to be bigger than the 7x+5y (or equal)
7x+5y>30 right?
