What was a similarity between East, Central, and South Africa? All of these areas experienced tremendous economic growth as a result of positive European trade relations that lasted for hundreds of years. Byzantine missionaries brought the religion of Christianity to all of these regions which helped to unify the entire continent of Africa. The Bantu migrations affected all of those areas as the Bantu moved into the regions and spread their language and traditions. The introduction of slavery affected all of these regions and resulted in war and chaos among the people who lived there
The biggest reason is culture and tribes are very different between West Africa & East Africa. Nobody ask about North Africa because people already know that region is of Middle eastern/arab/Muslim cultures, So people don't take that place into consideration. When people think of the southern part of Africa, South Africa is what comes to mind as a representation, and Safari's, so people have a sum up view of the place or region, plus some countries from the southern region are grouped with East African countries when it comes to Culture like Tanzania or Zimbabwe. Central Africa well many people I have to say forget about the fact that there is a region called central Africa, sometimes some countries of that region are grouped with west African countries like Congo and Cameroon and when I think of central Africa I think of the country of Congo and their soukous music. In my opinion West & East Africa are the places that has the most differences when it comes to African culture in many aspects like Firstly food, for example their cultural foods such as Ingera, ugali, Kitcha fit-fit are common foods eaten in east African countries but Fufu, rice dishes, plantain, and etc are common dishes eaten in West Africa(and since central African foods have similarities to their foods, as I said before some countries in that region are grouped up with west Africa). Secondly, when it comes to outside influences, not necessarily culture but colonization or trade of the past it was different in the countries between East vs. West Africa; For example countries such as Portugal,German,Netherlands(Dutch), Italy,Arab countries had a lot of influence in many East African countries of the past when it came to trade & control(also colonization) of that region as opposed to West Africa where there was only French & British influence in terms of colonization. So Even though majority of these countries kept their traditional & Tribal cultures and language's their official languages are of the countries that colonized them, in West Africa it's obvious but not East Africa. Thirdly, Bantu or Swahili are a common language spoken through out Southern Africa and most parts of East Africa but not West Africa. The tribal languages spoken in West Africa from one country to another is very diverse(ex. Ashanti, Yoruba, and etc). Lastly, Although ancient kingdoms in West Africa & East Africa traded with Arab countries when it came to spices and etc, there was more immersion of outside influences in East Africa then West Africa, especially in the cultural foods. In many Swahili traditional cuisines eaten in Southern in Eastern African countries(exception Horn of Africa), there are many outside influences, particularly from the Portuguese and Arabs but not in West African countries, even though the countries of that region were either colonized by the French or English their cuisines are strictly traditional cuisine's that were eaten before colonization with little outside influence. You see this in present day East & West Africa not only with food. For example my parents are from West Africa(Nigeria) and I have been there three times, and from my experience the only outside influence that was in Nigeria was the government structure and legal official language from England after colonization, which is English(so it's mandatory that every Nigerian from elementary school has to learn English, that's why it is well spoken there but 90% of the time Nigerian's speak their tribal primary language) besides that everything in Nigerian culture is 99% traditional from tribe to tribe when it comes to the clothes, food, language, cultural traditions, and etc; and it's the same thing with other West African countries like for example Ghana. p.s. FreeDeb white people don't own & are not the ruling class of West Africa(the only place or country in Africa where white people are the ruling class to a extent is South Africa). The ruling class in all Black African West African countries are the wealthy, government and to a extent middle Class black West Africans. It's basically who ever has the most money rule's so race is irrelevant to majority of black Africans in west Africa. Also all Sub-Saharan countries are majority black like 95%, as I said before the only country in Sub-Saharan Africa that has the biggest white population in South Africa(which is 5%, less the majority black in that country that is 79% black)
