write the equation on the graph in standard form https://learning.k12.com/content/enforced/171844-COF_ID7424/alg%201%20line.png?_&d2lSessionVal=5MEKh3MZf1t5TOAV65WiVHi69 @kalebj @brainlesslonelygirl

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

@sissyedgar

OpenStudy (sissyedgar):

I;m not good at all with these. Sorry

OpenStudy (brainlesslonelygirl):

aye sorry graphs are not exactly my strongest topic

OpenStudy (brainlesslonelygirl):

but the y intercept should be 1 and x should be about 0.25?

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

@tigerlover

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

Please help

OpenStudy (will.h):

Sure will do

OpenStudy (will.h):

Standard form is Ax + By = C 1st of all find the slope Do you know how?

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

I think so, is it 2 & 1/2? but like together lol

OpenStudy (will.h):

Can you give me 2 points that lays on the line so that we cam use it to find the slope? Hard to determine the points from my position it's quite unclear

OpenStudy (will.h):

I think there is a point (0,1) right? On the line.

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

Yes I think so

OpenStudy (will.h):

Terrific. Pick another point

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

I have no idea what it is lol

OpenStudy (will.h):

Mark 2 points that lays on the line. Can you control and mark pointS on that graph? If yes then use point tool and m mark 2 points. I think you are using Desmos.com So it is possible to mark the pointS. Do you see those gray pointS? Type on them and their values will appear. When they do tell me what they are

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

Did you see the link I put in the question? thats the pic that came with the question

OpenStudy (will.h):

(-0.5,-1.5) (0,1) Those are 2 points lays on the line. We can use them to find the slope Slope = Y2-Y1/X2-X1 Slope = 1 + 1.5/0 + 0.5 Slope = 2.5/0.5 Slope = 5 Make sense so far?

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

Lol sort of!

OpenStudy (mathmale):

You can pick ANY other point on the line that you wish, now that you've chosen (0,1) as the first point. Suppose that x were 1/2. What would be the value of y?

OpenStudy (will.h):

Great. Now we need to know the y intercept. The y intercept is when x = 0 When x was 0 we found that y equaled 1 So y intercept is 1 Now wr have y= 5x + 1 This is written in slope intercept form Where slope is 5 and y intercept is 1 But you want it to be in standard form. Where x and y should be on the same side. Can you do that?

OpenStudy (will.h):

Make your best shot. I'll be here to correct you if you're wrong

OpenStudy (will.h):

Y = 5x + 1 Move 5x to be on the same side of y How do we do that? It's like we want to isolate 1

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

5x-y=-1?

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

@will.h

OpenStudy (will.h):

Y= 5x + 1 To isolate 1 we will subtract 5x from both sides Y - 5x = 1 Since x and y are on the same side then now it is written in standard form. Make sense?

OpenStudy (tswiftcandle):

Yes it does! Thank you so much

OpenStudy (will.h):

You welcome
