Flowers of corn are pollinated by the wind. They are small and lightweight to allow easy pollination by the wind. They don't need to attract animals or insects and that's why they're colorless and odorless. Corn is pollinated by wind-borne pollen. Planting corn in blocks rather than in long rows makes it easier for the plants to pollinate one another during tasseling.
